Join us! Experienced psychotherapists Dr. Ruth Campbell, LCSW and Richard Coleman, LMSW discuss and demonstrate how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a collaborative (client and therapist) method for counselors based on social learning theory, is used with Substance Use Disorders.

Created in 2016 and updated in 2022 with current SUD prevalence statistics, information about DSM5 changes, and addiction’s effects on the family, this 2.5 hour-long beginning to intermediate level online, self-study, audio/video course features videotaped examples of clinical skills.  

Participants will be able to:

  1. identify the prevalence of alcohol and/ or marijuana use in adolescent and adult populations
  2. describe 1 effect of substance use disorders on the behavior and well-being of individuals, families, and communities
  3. describe one practice of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based models of treatment for substance use disorder related problems
  4. list 2 assessment tools for alcohol use disorders
  5. list 2 substance use disorder treatment strategies for adolescents
  6. describe 2 cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies useful for a client who is undergoing substance use (alcohol, marijuana, or cocaine) disorder treatment
  7. describe one evidence-based outcome of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based models of treatment for  substance use disorder related problems
  8. describe the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as an adjunct in the treatment of opiate use disorders
