The opioid crisis is still sweeping across the country, increasing overdose rates for opiate users. New York continues to have high over dose rates due to opiate-related deaths. There have been several national policy preventive interventions which have had harm reduction components since 2017. Personal, career, and practice barriers may limit harm reduction practice integration by clinicians. As the shape of clinical interventions changes to having more harm reduction availability, it is important to understand what factors are barriers in the implementation of harm reduction measures in clinical practice.
Hypothesis 1, 2, and 3 for the study predict that personal, career, and practice factors are significantly related to scores on the Harm Reduction Attitudes scale. The sample is drawn from lists of the NYS clinicians. No other organization has participated in designing the research nor do they endorse these studies.
